Redirect?

[edit]

Is it alright that I redirect this article to Transport_in_Gibraltar#Rail? (given that it is currently an exact duplicate of the what appears in the latter.) -- Chris.B 14:17, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is very thin at present, but I hope to add something on the Dockyard railway in due course. --Matthewross 21:57, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. It was just wondering. -- Chris.B 22:11, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I hope so, otherwise I'll be adding an article on pink tigers in Gibraltar, explaining how there aren't any. :-) The Red Hat of Pat Ferrick t 01:53, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

[edit]

Speedy deletion is inappropriate. To quote from WP:CSD: "Where reasonable doubt exists, discussion using another method under the deletion policy should occur instead." I agree with the nominator's concerns, but feel that merging into Transport in Gibraltar would be far more apt. -- Chris Btalkcontribs 14:04, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with that. Clearly it's a bit daft to have an article denying the existence of the contents of it's title, if that makes sense, but merging is sensible, unless of course adequate due is given to the content of this article already in the Transport in Gibraltar article. If so it's aduplicate and should be deleted. - Mickthefish | Talk 14:09, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Transport in Gibraltar: "There are no railways in Gibraltar. The nearest railway station (in Spain) is "San Roque - La Línea" station on the RENFE line from Algeciras to Bobadilla Junction via Ronda. Until 1969 a ferry from Gibraltar provided convenient access to Algeciras station."
  • Rail transport in Gibraltar: "Gibraltar has no railways. The nearest railway station (in Spain) is "San Roque - La Línea" station on the RENFE line from Algeciras to Bobadilla Junction via Ronda. A railway formerly existed in Gibraltar Dockyard."

So, all the rail transport in Gibraltar article adds is the sentence "A railway formerly existed in Gibraltar Dockyard". It would take 5 seconds to merge that one line into the main transport article, what then to do with this one? Speedy delete, as far as I can see. The Red Hat of Pat Ferrick t 14:37, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merging would provide a convenient redirect (esp. for the template; {{Rail transport in Europe}}). -- Chris Btalkcontribs 14:55, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Merging suggests that it is a valid article. When there is no railway in Gibraltar, "rail transport in Gibraltar" is not a valid article. The Red Hat of Pat Ferrick t 16:17, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree wholeheartedly with you that this is a useless article, but I don't understand how merging would suggest that it is a valid article or what have you. Simply redirect the page to Transport in Gibraltar#Rail (as I originally suggested ) and add the bit about the dockyard. I don't think that is too much of a problem. -- Chris Btalkcontribs 16:26, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why does the article even need to exist though? Who is going to look up "rail transport in Gibraltar"? The Red Hat of Pat Ferrick t 16:29, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can assure the acticle's creator did, otherwise it wouldn't be here in the first place. :) -- Chris Btalkcontribs 16:33, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
