Discussion of "Tree-Sided Dream" overlooks similar work on Kirk's earlier albums
The long discussion of "Three-Sided" suggests, incorrectly, that it was unique, (other than in its odd "mostly blank side" audio format) as a sort of audio collage. Several of Kirk's prior albums include audio collages, with long spoken sections interspersed with music. "The Seeker", which makes up most of a full LP side of "Rahsaan Rahsaan" (seventeen minutes) is a clear example; "Black Mystery has Been Revealed", on "Right/Left" is a much shorter one. Someone have a discussion of the Ed Sullivan appearance?
In January 1971, Kirk appeared as a named guest on Ed Sullivan's Sunday night show, as a result of the protests which the article mentions only in passing. He brought with him a band including, among others, Charles Mingus, Archie Shepp, and Roy Haynes. What was billed as a cover of Stevie Wonder's "My Cherie Amour" proved to be instead a disjointed reading of Mingus' "Haitian Fight Song".

This article deserves refrences and sources!
"He played the lead flute and solo on Jones' Soul Bossa Nova, a song popularized in the Austin Powers films." Uh, what the fuck? What is the source on this? I've never heard this before, and I highly doubt it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.33.115.21 (talk) 06:06, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
- Kirk played for Jones quite a bit. This song is on the album Big Band Bossa Nova (1964), originally on the Mercury label. Kirk plays a solo toward the end of the song. – ishwar (speak) 15:24, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Check the liner notes on "Big Band Bossa Nova" (1964). What other source would be better? Silverlake Bodhisattva 20:58, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Whither stritch and manzello?
Whom did Kirk leave them to? Where are they now? The article should say. Rothorpe 15:08, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:RolandKirk.jpg
Image:RolandKirk.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Roland Kirk Beer
Let's put a link or a pic of this beer up.
The pic is at the bottom of the pageJingleheimer Smith (talk) 01:07, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
If there are no objections I shall link to this in the article. Jingleheimer Smith (talk) 19:29, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, no advertising allowed - it'll be reverted immediately. Rothorpe (talk) 21:57, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Its not advertising, its notable because his image is on a beer bottle. is your cat on a beer label? Jingleheimer Smith (talk) 00:01, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Exactly my point: it is not notable, it is advertising. Rothorpe (talk) 15:08, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
What is your point? Your response is incoherent. Jingleheimer Smith (talk) 15:57, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- I have in front of me two beermats, respectively advertising Spitfire and Pedigree. I trust you will be amending those articles accordingly. Rothorpe (talk) 17:11, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Once again you are avoiding this issue. I will insert the links and that's that. Jingleheimer Smith (talk) 22:57, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
Year of birth
Either that's 1935 or the reference there should be deleted. As it is now, something is incorrect. Experimental Hobo Infiltration Droid changed it to 1936 and said "every source I've found lists 1936", but the reference quotes The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz which states: "The year of his birth has been widely given as 1936, but his birth certificate gives 1935". Please, someone with more knowledge of the subject matter... Mark in wiki (talk) 09:01, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- I've requested that Experimental Hobo Infiltration Droid reconsider the edit to 1936, or cite an alternative and equally reliable source that also claims to have inspected Kirk's birth certificate; see User_talk:Experimental_Hobo_Infiltration_Droid#Roland_Kirk_DoB. -- PappyK (talk) 03:28, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Following discussion at User talk:Experimental Hobo Infiltration Droid#Roland Kirk DoB and User talk:PappyK#RRK Birhdate, Experimental Hobo Infiltration Droid has agreed to revert to the 1935 DoB. -- PappyK (talk) 22:12, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
