Notability discussion
[edit]He's listed here http://www2.arendal.kommune.no/QuickPlace/kultur/Main.nsf/h_Index/AEA94607C1E11CC2C1256EC2002BE030/?OpenDocument&Form=h_PageUI as 'historical'. Gudrød the Hunter is semi-legendary, but then again so are many of that date. They didn't have anyone insisting on neat references and links.... Whether the people are legendary, semi-, or real, they have an existence - just as Robin Hood and King Arthur do. Admittedly, Ragnvald Sigurdsson is less well-known in the English-speaking world than they are. Not a hoax, in my opinion. I would say Keep and add Stub category. - you must put references in all articles. Wikipedia is simply growing too fast. How else could I know it wasn't vandalism? It isn't personal, it is just there are too many articles without references. Please put that reference in the article, and please consider going back to articles you have created before and sourcing them, to prevent them from getting deleted. Sourcing an article is more important that creating a new article, as it lends credibility (and reliability) to what we are all trying to do. PHARMBOY (moo) (plop) 23:38, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- Was that to me or the creator of the article? Not mine - I'm just looking things up while I relax after a hard day... Peridon (talk) 00:22, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- Added ref to article (not very neatly - tired and going to bed...) Peridon (talk) 00:57, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- legendary characters are notable, and one reasonable reference is enough. In any case, we do not delete for unreferenced, only for unreferenceable. As forthe others, they too should get referenced soon. Its more useful to find a reference than to tag an article as unreferenced. What would help for all of these is to make it clear exactly the degree to which they are currently regarded a historical in modern works. DGG (talk) 03:29, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Notes from stumbling on this during the WP:FEB24 unreferenced article drive:
Blocked editor added the "sources exist" tag a couple years ago, but doesn't mention which. I see a brief section on him in VikingPedia, which doesn't inspire much confidence but is a published book; however I can't access all of it and can't read the part I can see in the preview.
The Spanish version cites Sturluson, Snorri. Heimskringla: History of the Kings of Norway, trad. Lee M. Hollander. Reprinted University of Texas Press, Austin, 1992. ISBN 0-292-73061-6, which I likewise can't access, and he may be mentioned in Nordmenn fra vikingtiden: Tore Hund, Eirik HÃ¥konsson, Olav Tryggvason, Magnus den gode, Olav den hellige, Harald HÃ¥rfagre, Eirik Raude, a Portuguese book. That's the sum total of substantive sourcing I've been able to find.
My overall assessment is that he's prrrrrobably borderline notable, extending him some courtesy re:the difficulty of finding good sourcing on obscure historical figures, but I can't actually cite the article. Rusalkii (talk) 04:40, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
