The sentence: "Of all the radiation-chemical reactions that have been studied, the most important is the decomposition of water." is the sort of vague, subjective statement that doesn't belong in Wikipedia, in my opinion. The "Citation needed" tag isn't enough. I am going to revisit this page shortly and remove the sentence unless I see convincing arguments here that it needs to remain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.115.88.202 (talk) 18:57, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
This is totally out of my area, but a major news source reported radiolysis as a possible source for possible life on the planet Mars: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/15/AR2009011502222.html Chouhouzi (talk) 17:41, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
The discussion of hydroxide radical and hydrogen radical and hydroxide ion and hydrogen ion is either wrong or needs further explanation. This does not make sense. a hydrogen ion is H+ what is a hydrogen radical??? is it H3O+ ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.162.0.42 (talk) 16:53, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]I propose that Szilard-Chalmers Effect be merged into Radiolysis. I think that the content in the Szilard-Chalmers Effect article can easily be explained in the context of Radiolysis, and the Radiolysis article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Szilard-Chalmers Effect will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. A merger was proposed by User:FoCuSandLeArN at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chemistry#New article. Plasmic Physics (talk) 03:24, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- These are essentially different processes. A nuclear reaction does not necessarily produce, and is not necessarily caused by ionizing radiation. And an ionizing radiation is not necessarily related to radioactive decay or other nuclear transformations. BTW, when one sees a non-standard article title, as well as a dummy talk section header, a natural reaction would be to fix, both. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 06:02, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, but perhaps the Szilard-Chalmers stub's contents are covered elsewhere. That's why I started the discussion in the appropriate WikiProject. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 15:06, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- Give the very reasonable arguments against the merge by Incnis Mrsi, perhaps merging to Radioactive decay might be better, as this phenomenon describes a consequence of such decay and is small enough to be accommodated on the target. Klbrain (talk) 20:36, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
