Likely closure of ionosonde stations at Chilton and Port Stanley

These stations still perform a valuable monitoring function, particularly in view of their continuous records dating back to 1931 and 1945 respectively. Is this work of value to other areas of research, or to professionals in HF communications? Would amateur/volunteer effort be helpful to keep the stations operational?
