"As with its "successor", Valis, this is perhaps his most autobiographical novel. " Both can't be his MOST autobiographical novel. I'm changing this sentence to read, "As with its "successor", VALIS, this novel is autobiographical." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.45.10.192 (talk) 05:48, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Albemuth

[edit]

I wish someone would research where this word came from. i dont think its defined in the novel.76.245.46.141 (talk) 04:17, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"A star system with a name out of our own devising; I knew the star's name. It was Albemuth. But I could find no such star listed in our reference works, although the prefix Al was common to stars, since it signified the word "the" in Arabic." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.9.112.60 (talk) 12:50, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Albemuth" (Arabic: "al-Behemoth", which PKD interpreted to mean "the whale", note the PKD fish symbolism) allegedly refers to the star Fomalhaut, which was found to have a planet in the 2000s. It was the first exoplanet to be directly observed in visible light, and is about the size of Jupiter. PKD also talks about this in The Unteleported Man (1966), where colonists travel to a planet in the Fomalhaut system known as "Whale's Mouth". Viriditas (talk) 13:20, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall that our Friend From Frolix 8 also came from the Fomalhaut system. Wastrel Way (talk) 19:48, 5 March 2019 (UTC) Eric[reply]

Fappers

[edit]

Huh? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.208.20.114 (talk) 15:16, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. It is written in the novel as "FAPers". "Fappers" implies something a lot more sexually intriguing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.9.112.60 (talk) 12:53, 6 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the spelling and capitalization. there is definitely no connection, as the sexual phrase came about long after his death.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 01:38, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is a Stuart Hamm album by this name. He is an electric bass player who has played with the likes of Joe Satraini. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.39.38.81 (talk) 04:28, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
