Neutrality
[edit]Hi Madelynrahman, I'm reviewing your article as part of my wikipedia training because this is a topic that I am passionate about and want to develop a better history on. I'm hoping to add in some more neutral sources towards your findings to make this a stronger article to be on Wikipedia, and offer more perspectives towards the benefits of diversity in US college fraternities and sororities. --Mothman6359 (talk) 03:09, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
Removed false quote
[edit]I removed a missatributed quote, stating: “The fraternity breeds snobbery, incubates hate, fosters foppery, reduces favoritism, and crushes individuality.”
I have found where the quote comes from, and it has nothing to do with racism. It originates from an article in "The U. of N. Sagebrush" from 1913, where it is used as an argument to ban all fraternities and sororities in Ohio. https://unr.dgicloud.com/51956
It is then, a couple of months later, picked up by the sorority magazine "The Adelphean". https://www.alphadeltapi.org/news/digitalarchives/
100+ years later, in a article the washington post uses the quote in order to make sororites seem hypocritical, as the writer believes them to be racist, while having feminist roots. https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/10/21/sororities-fraternities-are-finally-confronting-their-racist-past/
Never in this chain is it used in order to describe racist practises in greek life. LibrarianFromLund (talk) 07:25, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
