Brazil

[edit]

This article should have a subtitle for "Brazil", as Brazilians are thoroughly different from Latin Americans. Besides the Portuguese colonization, Brazilian Indians are not the same as the other Indians in the Americas. --Betty VH (talk) 22:05, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you meant to say "Brazilians are thoroughly different from other Latin Americans". 2603:3024:1405:D00:7438:BC33:18A1:242F (talk) 05:35, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Confused about the math here

[edit]

The article says "the percentages of people identifying as fully black or indigenous has increased over the course of the twentieth century as the mixed class expanded", but my hazy understanding suggests that it is more likely that the percent identifying as black would DEcrease as more people chose to identify as mixed.

Probably a typo, but hesitant to start an edit war in a potentially charged article. 2603:3024:1405:D00:7438:BC33:18A1:242F (talk) 05:35, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

influently worded?

[edit]

This phrase doesn't seem to have a meaning in standard English; perhaps what was intended was something like "strongly influenced". I hate putting words in someone else's mouth. 2603:3024:1405:D00:7438:BC33:18A1:242F (talk) 05:45, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Race and ethnicity in Latin America Project

[edit]

I plan to improve the racial concepts illustrated, give more comparison among Latin America countries, add more sections on different countries and give equal comparison to United States. More specifically, The Top 5 countries with migrants to the United States from each region will be explored and a supplementary exploration of Puerto Rico as a commonwealth will be given due to its geographical location in the Caribbean but also its political dependency to the United States. In South America, there will be an exploration on the countries of Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, and Venezuela which were the top 5 countries with migrating individuals to the United States in 2017. Then, the countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama will be explored for Central America. Following, the countries of Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Haiti, and Trinidad and Tobago will be investigated. Mexico will then be particularly investigated for the North American region given its geographical division between North America and Central America. Overall, this is important to improve of Wikipedia’s coverage of Latin American topics due to Wikipedia being a global source that can give the various perspectives and points of views to the diverse region itself rather than a narrow-minded one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Capitanaamerica (talkcontribs) 16:57, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Peru - Racial and ethnical terms - errors of concepts and suggestions

[edit]

As a Peruvian, I can say that both Aymara and Quechua meanings are poorly defined.

"Aymara" is used to refer to the indigenous of the Altiplano region, it has nothing to do if they're the most direct native-descent or not. "Quechuas" are people of the Andes who speaks Quechua language(s), mostly, not any random group of natives in a rural area, like the current definition implies (if it were like that, "Amazonians" term would not make any sense).

Also, I suggest incorporating Tusan (Chinese peruvian) and Nikkei (japanese peruvian) in the racial and ethnical terms table, and Asian Peruvians meaning instead "Nikkei, Tusan or other asians descendants, mainly from East Asia and the Far East" 38.25.16.102 (talk) 21:26, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
