Is Herasim Levadev the same person as Gerasim Lebedev
[edit]Under section "Brief relevant history of Bengal", the name of a Russian musician and bandmaster Herasim Levadev appears. His surname is later mis-spelt in this article as Lavadev. This forces me to think that the person who wrote/edited this portion must have written the name incorrectly(typos or so). On the other hand, their exists another Russian artist with a similar-sounding name, Gerasim Lebedev, who also came to India and Calcutta. Could it be possible that the name Herasim Levadev written in this article should actually be written as Gerasim Lebedev?
Needs rewrite
[edit]This article needs a complete rewrite. For one, someone needs to expand on the phases of the songs and mention something about the Geetobitan. I can do that, but as usual, I am busy with 10 other projects and am not a specialist in the field (at all). So it is lower on my own priority scale. I would really appreciate it if someone volunteered to take on this task as I think it is a high significance project.--Antorjal 18:25, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Names
[edit]The names of Chinmoy, Sagar Sen, Dijen cannot be left out. The contributions of Chinmoy and Sagar Sen are well known, how come they werent included in the first place? In Bangladesh Sanjida and Fahmida Khatuns, the two sisters founded Chayanat, the iconic school of music and culture. Because of them Rabindra Sangeet became so popular. Please dont re-edit with such limited knowledge and narrow-mindedness. -Pmonon —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.112.192.26 (talk) 04:39, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
WP:NLIST says:
"Many articles contain (or stand alone as) lists of people. Inclusion within stand-alone lists should be determined by the notability criteria above. Inclusion in lists contained within articles should be determined by WP:Source list, in that the entries must have the same importance to the subject as would be required for the entry to be included in the text of the article according to Wikipedia policies and guidelines (including WP:Trivia sections). Furthermore, every entry in any such list requires a reliable source attesting to the fact that the named person is a member of the listed group.
For instance, articles about schools often include (or link to) a list of notable alumni, but such lists are not intended to contain every graduate of the school—only those with verifiable notability. Editors who would like to be identified as an alumnus/alumna should instead use the categories intended for this purpose, e.g. Category:Wikipedians by alma mater. On the other hand, a list within an article of past school presidents can contain all past presidents, not just those who are independently notable."
WP:LISTPEOPLE says
"A person may be included in a list of people if all the following requirements are met:
The person meets the Wikipedia notability requirement. An exception to this requirement may be made if the person is especially important in the list's group; for example, if the person isfamous for a specific event, the notability requirement need not be met. If a person in a list does not have an article in Wikipedia about them, a citation (or link to another article) must be provided to establish their membership in the list's group and to establish their notability. The person's membership in the list's group is significant in some way (in other words, a person should not be included in a list merely because they happen to be a member of the list's group). This requirement applies only to lists based upon religion, beliefs, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or other contentious topics. The person's membership in the list's group is established by reliable sources."
So this is meant to be not just a list of singers, but a list of 'notable singers' by OUR criteria. It probably is the case that some of your additions are notable by those criteria and should have articles and be in this list, but I have no reason to think that is true of all of the names you added, and none of them have articles or reliable sources suggesting they meet our criteria. If we didn't do this, the list could be used by every singer to publicise themselves. And see WP:RS for what is meant by reliable sources. Dougweller (talk) 05:48, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Please note your list of prominent Rabindra Sangeet teacher is missing the most important name. Pramita Mullick is the leading Singer in Teacher of RabindraSangeet in Kolkata. Actually you can't get any one better than her when it comes to rabindra sangeet teaching. |
