Citation needed tags
[edit]I've removed a couple of the [citation needed] tags, as the data are cited very clearly on the WHOI page about the ship as referenced in the external links section; some of the article, indeed, is taken almost verbatim from that page. Specifically, the parts about the anti-roll tanks and the ice strengthened bow are noted there. It's not clear to me that those specific claims need citations, when other claims do not. - When I was on the ship, I heard crew mention the ice-strengthened bow with skepticism. (What does it even mean? Is it just more steel and more frames in the bow?) I think it could do with better citation than the WHOI PR page. I would much rather rely on a WHOI engineering report if it is available. On the other hand, I've spoken with several people who described first-hand seeing the Voith-Schneider propellers; while it doesn't follow Wikipedia's rules, I trust that fact much more even though I couldn't find any text sources for that fact. —Ben FrantzDale 10:55, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- On the cyclodial propellor, there is a reference to it in Robert Ballard's book Titanic, and (if my memory serves) a picture of it taken from Alvin underwater. Unfortunately I have long since lost my copy of this book, but it's in there somewhere! Otfordian (talk) 14:14, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
