tuning

[edit]

The tuning of the quinton cannot be c/g/d'a/'e" and be in between violin and viol at the same time. That tuning is all fifths, while a viol tuning is fourths and one third; so a hybrid tuning should have fifths and fourths.

I have as one possible quinton tuning g/d'/a'/d"/g". That would indeed be a tuning in between the violin and viol families. I don't remember what source I got this from.

When I tune my five string cello C/G/d/g/c' for my moronic arrangement of Bach's Fifth suite, I call the instrument bass quinton.
