Origin
[edit]The name Quinn appears to originate from County_Longford, County_Clare, County_Mayo and County_Antrim in Ireland during the 2nd Century CE via the line of Conn of the Hundred battles through his son Art mac Cuinn and Art's 5th his great grandson Niall Ó Cuinn, or Niall of the Nine Hostages. While the signature is typical for R1b European males in general, it is characterized by 11,13 at DYS 385a/b and 14 at DYS 392. Within the second panel of markers the most distinctive difference from the R1b Modal is the 15,16,16,17 at DYS 464.[1]
The genetic reports at the Quinn Surname Project with over 150 tested individuals with and without the Quinn surname report a portion of them are M222+ which is what many call the Niall markers and reports that 1/12 of all Irishmen alive today descend from Niall. Possible Dialect / Spelling Variations
[edit]Is this section too long? Could it be shortened? Must all the variations be spelt out? The Average Wikipedian (talk) 15:44, 6 February 2015 (UTC) I do believe it should be concise. There are many issues with this page that could be corrected. The problems are that genetic genealogy indicates that these names are kindred associations from Medieval times, or time prior to surname usage. Like this, if Art mac Cuinn is the eponymous ancestor, since he was the first to employ the fact that he had a forename and carried forth his father's name, I think thusly they are relevant in some way. This takes too much effort to resolve easilly. I have left them there as I review the genetic data both at Family Tree DNA (Gene by Gene) and the National Geographic Genographic project as well as the Quinn Genetic Genealogy Project. It is all rather obscure. What would you do? VoodooShamen (talk) 17:30, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
