Uskokovic
[edit]https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/ja00704a036
based on this, the German wikipedia claims that Uskokovic in 1970 was the first to successfully total-synthetize Chinin ...
is this true?

Scheme "Kondo & Mori" 1974
[edit]The orthoester's ethoxy groups "magically" convert into ethyl groups, but i'm sorry that i lack the skills to adjust pictures...

- StuFi Are you talking about this? Can you describe the problem again, in another way?
- "1974: Kondo & Mori synthesize racemic vinylic gamma-lactones, a key starting material in Stork's 2001 quinine synthesis."
- Hi all, if you can sort out what is wrong in the picture I can try to fix it. V8rik (talk) 17:08, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
- Hi V8rik
- I'm really happy that you ask. The blue molecule over the arrow contains three ethoxy groups (OEt). Both molecules in brackets should have one of those (OEt) left, but the oxygen disappeared, what is wrong (Additionally, the product wouldn't form from this wrong intermediate). Wrong: "Et", right: "OEt", with the O connected to the bond (sorry for being overly precise :) )
