Illuminations
[edit]There is a reference saying that Poulet was an illuminator; but apparently for the manuscript under "Works" it was sent to Flanders for the work; presumably accounting for the cost. The British Library credits a "Master of the Prayer Book" only. This should be clarified. Charles Matthews (talk) 23:12, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
- I expect he could do flourishes & decorated initials for ordinary MS, but I see no sign he did the fully painted scenes of the most lavish ones, by then a fully different craft. There's more on him in Kren & McKendrick & a little on p 274 here. I'll add some before long. Actually Kren & McK (he's head MS man at the BL) discuss whether he was an illuminator - if he was no miniatures can be assigned to him. Johnbod (talk) 02:58, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
1506 and after
[edit]It gets a bit murky after 1506. Guillaume Faques was a Norman printer, and he may have been a librarian only in the sense of procurement of books. Giles Dewes (many spellings, in the DNB) was librarian from 1509, it seems. There is some suggestion that Poulet collaborated in a well-known poetry manuscript of Johannes Opicius and this could possibly make him still active under Henry VIII; but this is a bit marginal with what I can read online. - K & McK (p.520) have Dewes appointed in 1506, citing Smeyers, & think QP may have gone back to the continent after that. Johnbod (talk) 13:38, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
