Headline text
She also had her own talk show. "Queen Latifah Show". "Too many shows are either real, 'around the way'ghetto or they tear your heart apart and don't help you," she said. "My show will be Oprah meets Rosie meets Chris Rock. I want to bring the voice of the classy youth of America -- young people who like to have fun and deal with issues."
- Thanks, I added a bit about that. DocOck 21:37, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
Other movies
Wasn't she in Spike Lee's movie Jungle Fever? She played the role of a waitress and wore a dasheke (sp).
She played Ana Wallace in the HBO Films original production "Life Support" March 10, 2007. Based on a true story.
I heard rumours (I could be wrong) that she will not be acting in the sequel to bringing down the house (scheduled for 2007)
I also heard that she will be acting in bad girls(a parody of bad boys).

Hollywood Walk of Fame
According to the article on German Wikipedia, Queen Latifah was the very first hip-hop artist to have a star on the Walk of Fame. If this is true, then it's not relevant if she's the first female hip-hop star. Gilliamjf 09:54, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Clean-up tag
{{Cleanup|date=March 2007}}
Shall I put this tag on top of the article? I think it is quite obvious this article isn't that great when it comes to citing sources, so maybe I should put one of those tags on the article. I would like a second opinion before I go off adding things. Thanks in advance. Arrowhead1 19:14, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- I've just done a little cleaning of the article. There was a fair bit of poor grammar, some unclear statements, and some vandalism that I've tried to repair. The article looks clean to me now, but I agree that it could be much better cited. I'm not sure if a cleanup template would be best at this point -- maybe the template for citing sources instead? --DavidGC 07:31, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

"most likely" the Actors' Studio?
I removed the paragraph about Latifah crying about her brother. It seemed one part rumor, one part speculation. The person who added that info didn't even know what show this allegedly happened on! Completely irrelevant, and terribly researched. Minaker 00:17 30 September 2007 (UTC)

This article does not mention anything about her role in the film "New Jack City" this fil came out in about 1990 and she sung the song "For the Love of Money" with Levert and Troup. In my opinion one of the best sountracks for a gangster movie ever. This movie significantly helped if not launched many of the careers of the actors in that film, Wesley Snipes indicated such in an interview. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vinoone (talk • contribs) 07:06, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Women of colour?
"She has developed her own line of cosmetics for women of color called the Covergirl Queen Collection" Come on, honestly, cant this be something different, like... black people?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Kuzmaster (talk • contribs) 08:27 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- "Of color" is inclusive of more ethnicities than those of African descent. Latinas, Native Americans, Indians (as in Asia) etc. are all "women of color", who might find cosmetics developed for caucasian complexions less than satisfactory. Let it stand as written. Caliban93 (talk) 19:24, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
"People of color" is a stupid term. It's not very different than "colored" from the 19th century. I thought we were moving forward. Electricbassguy (talk) 11:37, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
- I would have to say "people of color" is the most preferable term currently in use. It's a over-encompassing term referring to non-Caucasians, which many may find less offensive than "browns and blacks" or any other abbreviated form of saying "People of Middle-Eastern, African, Asian, Native-American, Pacific-Island, or Aboriginal descent." Also, I have no source for this, but I feel like brands for darker skin tones use euphemisms like "People of Color," or "Those with darker skin." I personally feel like this may be just a situation of over-sensitivity, because just by the simple act of identifying humans by skin color, no matter how benign the intentions, such as for cosmetics, is inherently racism; racism being the identification or classification of race based on skin color, whether inducing hate or identifying skin products. Cleric2145 (talk) 09:09, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Agreed, Electricbassguy. It seems to imply "Caucasians", as if that were some single group, are colourless. 76.103.104.48 (talk) 01:00, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Personal Life
Why is the statement "It has later been stated that Latifah was dating her female trainer, Jeanette Jenkins." listed here? In bold letters none the less? Did Queen Latifah state this herself? - I removed the following statement: "confirming the rumors that they were true", from the personal life section. The quote that follows does not confirm her sexuality. kc12286 00:51, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- The media is reporting that it IS 100% confirmed she is a lesbian, and with California's legalization of gay marriage she will be marrying her personal trainer. Ellen DeGeneres will also be marrying. Cleric2145 (talk) 14:04, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's important that we not speculate on someone's very private life. There is no evidence that she is part of the homosexual lifestyle and in fact many have used that slur in order to undermine her work. We would not be discussing the intimate affairs of any other artist, so we need to show her some respect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.74.75.30 (talk) 04:18, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
'Part of the homosexual lifestyle'?? You mean 'gay' I presume...which is not a 'slur' for heaven's sake. Vauxhall1964 (talk) 00:12, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Rather than speculate about personal relationships which cannot be documented by reliable sources, perhaps the focus of this section should be upon the artist's noteable aversion to making her private life public, which is verifiable? Caliban93 (talk) 19:35, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Hairspray
The summer of 2007 brought Latifah triple success in the big-screen version of the Broadway smash hit Hairspray, in which she acted, sang, and danced. The film rated highly with critics. It starred, among others, John Travolta (Grease), Michelle Pfeiffer (Stardust), Allison Janney (Juno), James Marsden (Enchanted) and Christopher Walken (Catch Me If You Can).
I doubt any of these people need extra credits by their name to indicate who they are (and the decisions made to illustrate a film associated with them is... bizarre). Anyone who desires to know who the actor is can simply click on their names. 12.162.122.6 (talk) 19:13, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Better Picture
Why in the HELL is there a picture of Queen Latifah with aviators on covering her half her face, when someone not knowing who she is clicks on her name from some movie she acted in and can't see her? For someone as famous as Latifah, they need a better picture so someone who isn't quite familiar with her can hopefully recognize her upon visiting this page. Movie categories
Is it relevant how many of her movie apparances were in remakes, sequels, based on books, etc? This is not usually listed for actors. "Queen of Egypt"?
I'm simply puzzled by the listing of "queen of Egypt" under occupations. It seems to have been around for quite some time. Since her mother's death made the news I noticed the obituaries conflict with what this article states.

Body image issues
Wonder if this should be mentioned in the article somewhere. I’m not sure (it’s mentioned in Parton’s article, but then it’s a much more well-known aspect of Parton’s public image than Latifah’s). Also Latifah unlike Parton, underwent a reduction at some point (which she later regretted). 2600:1014:B054:DC51:5403:DAF:902D:8791 (talk) 18:02, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

As the article Nicki Minaj has added the sentence "[She] has been referred to as the 'Queen of Rap'" to its lead section, I was reading some of the reasoning on Bieber's 'Prince of Pop' discussion, and there's a point on these mentioned nicknames not being exclusive, not essential to just one person, and actually being passed around. And newer artists have already started to get the nickname within the press.
Aside from the mentioned, there's two other articles that have the nickname "Queen of Rap" on their lead sections:
- Queen Latifah
- Missy Elliott
Both widely covered
(Also Lil' Kim and MC Lyte have the same nickname within their articles)
Seeking uniformity and integration in Wikipedia, I'm proposing their lead (of the three) go from
- [Name] has been referred to as "the Queen of Rap" by several media outlets
to
- [Name] is among the women that have been cited as the "Queen of Rap" by multiple media outlets.

- Comment: In political systems where the head of state is a royal person, the supreme political authority cannot but rest on one, single individual. Disputing that person's authority or, worse, claiming it, is forbidden and punishable by law. But while these are trivially, historically established attributes of monarchy in polical systems, we have no reason (more accurately, no Wikipedia-provided rationale) to allow them to guide in any way biographical articles here. We should be able to include in the appellations of persons the terms "king" or "queen - to the extent that they are so called in sources. In so many words, we can have many kings and queens here. -The Gnome (talk) 11:05, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
- Comment (invited by the bot). It looks like this has not even been discussed here. If that is true, an RFC is not appropriate at this time. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 13:11, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
- @North8000: right. I opened an RFC because it involves three articles, and I've been finding the method useful to get the attention from more users. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 19:57, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
- In several ways, that is not really correct. First step is to discuss at the article(s) involved, or possible try WP:BRD. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 20:15, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

- Procedural close: RFCBEFORE has not been completed. ––FormalDude talk 18:58, 31 January 2022 (UTC) (Summoned by bot)
- Comment: (whether or not this is a RFC) The phrasing “among the women” seems clearest to me. That covers things whether multiple people are being declared queen at the same time, or if the declaration of who is queen moves around. (Who is on top maybe comes and goes from moment to moment.) - Procedural close (was checking RfCs and saw this) I agree that WP:RFCBEFORE needs to be completed as well. In addition to that, why are you suddenly changing from your "these other articles shouldn't be used in editing" argument found here? Anyways. In theory, there shouldn't be anything wrong with citing other women as the "Queen of XYZ" provided that there is evidence that reliable secondary source use the source frequently and consistently. However, in none of these articles that you've cited, it is shown that they are called the Queen of Rap/Queen of Hip Hop consistently.
- In Latifah's case, majority of the sources are all from the 90s, and she hasn't been called Queen of Rap or Queen of Hip Hop since then in any major articles. Same for Missy, after removing the unreliable sources, both articles that call her the "Queen of Rap" are from 2003. The singular English source that calls Lil Kim the Queen of Rap was in 2005. All of these sources are before Minaj even started in the music industry, so why would the title still be in their lead all these years later? The sources don't support your claim of seeking uniformity and integration... shanghai.talk to me 16:23, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

- I don't see any sources about that claim and there is no famous people with that name either so usually that would not be included in the article if this claim is true. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 09:17, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
