Controversies: Homecoming?
I'm a bit amazed that one has to go back to 2006 to find any mention of the 2005 Homecoming riot and subsequent yearly crackdowns/cancellations. I understand the university wants to change its image, but surely it is a notable enough fact to deserve a mention regardless. Arguably also a note in the traditions with mention that it is currently on indefinite hold. 96.54.165.181 (talk) 03:10, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- The reason there is no mention is that the "party" was not an officially sanctioned Queen's/Homecoming event. The only ties this social phenomenon has to Queen's is that it occurred during, and was triggered by, Homecoming, it was close to the university, and some Queen's students participated. Therefore, since the party and its effects are really only incidental to Queen's, there is no reason to include mention in the article. Also, there would be an undue weight problem. BC talk to me 06:28, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, those facts hardly prevented the public's condemnation of Queen's students at the time, which again to me makes it notable enough for inclusion in a 'controversies' section. I'm also not entirely clear as to why a weight problem must occur; it would be fairly easy to stick to measurable impact on the University, specifically paying Kingston Police for their presence that year and the few that followed, and the eventual stop to Homecoming. 96.54.165.181 (talk) 16:11, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Insufficient Footnote
In the Admissions section, the article says 1) what the high school average score is for students that are accepted, and 2) that that is the second-highest in Canada, after McGill. There's a problem with the footnote: it points to a link that verifies 1) but doesn't mention 2) at all, so can someone find a link that shows what McGill's average entrance score is, and that that's the highest in Canada, and that Queen's is second-highest? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.64.35.20 (talk) 23:59, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Controversies: Rector Day
Is it appropriate to include some information about the controversy surrounding Rector Day, both referendums and such? If nobody has any strong feelings or suggestions surrounding this I can consider doing it, although I am new and would appreciate pointers. Rosilisk (talk) 22:56, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Not really. Keep in mind that this is a general article about the university; no one person should be centered out and discussed. We could also run into BLP issues.- BC talk to me 23:13, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- Ok sounds good. Thanks for the welcome by the way :) Rosilisk (talk) 14:46, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Queen's School of Computing
Queen's School of Computing is being considered for deletion. One proposal is to merge the contents of that article here. Please weigh in if you have a moment. -—Kvng 05:13, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
anti vaxxer stuff
Is that section really necessary? In the history of the institution is the incident of the course taught by an anti vaxxer really that notable? This strikes me as recentism of the highest order. It really ought not to be there. Dbrodbeck (talk) 15:59, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
- I agree. It's a minor issue and related to a single, non-continuous short event. OhanaUnitedTalk page 05:00, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
- Similar content was removed from the University of Toronto article, noting the site's policy on WP:RECENCY. I would support its removal for similar reasons.Leventio (talk) 09:28, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
