Billy Bragg

[edit]
The article should state that Billy Bragg was meant to serve with the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars but instead bought himself out of the British Army. Just to add a wee bit of trivia!jeanne (talk) 08:53, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately as he never served in the regiment it isn't possible (IMO) to include him. He never finished his training. He only wore the badge with the dark blue beret of the training regiment. That means his regiment was actually RAC Training Regiment, not QRIH. You'd have the purists jumping down my throat if I included that.GDD1000 (talk) 10:05, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A pity, seeing as the Bragg article states QRIH.Says he bought himself out of army to work as a phone repairman.jeanne (talk) 11:39, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The Billy Bragg article does point out that he never finished his training. It might help to know that the badge for the RAC Training Regiment used to be the "Mailed Fist" of the Royal armoured Corps. They dropped that in favour of allowing recruits to wear the cap badges of the regiments they had opted to join but other regimental distinctions like coloured berets, belts etc were witheld until they had finished training (although some like 5DG or RH were allowed to wear their green or crimson trousers). Officially nobody belongs to a regiment until they have received a "posting order", prior to that they are just a recruit to the corps - in training, but you can say he "chose" that regiment to serve with.GDD1000 (talk) 12:30, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What am I saying? I don't own this article so if you feel the information should be included then go ahead and put it in. I almost fell victim to something I disagree with there - claiming ownership of articles.GDD1000 (talk) 12:37, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I added it.Did I write it correctly ?jeanne (talk) 14:37, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looks ok to me. I'm not going to interfere. I intend to do more work to this article but that won't affect your entry.GDD1000 (talk) 15:34, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's a relief. I was afraid it looked amateurishjeanne (talk) 17:23, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The name of his second LP is "Brewing Up With Billy Bragg", but I hesitated to place it in the article as I was afraid it would be construed as spamming. What do you think?jeanne (talk) 05:34, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The LP is listed in it's own separate article so I'll go ahead and list it here.OK with you?jeanne (talk) 06:27, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
