I think the definition of quasi-birth-and-death-processes is given wrong. Quasi-Birth-and-Death-Processes are CTMC's where the generator is a block tridiagonal matrix, where blocks repeat in a specific manner. in the reference given there is no word spoken about QBD-processes to be a semi markov process in general.
