Rewrite
[edit]I'm going to do a rewrite of this article later today, with a lot of cleanup and a fair amount of expansion. White Whirlwind 咨 21:40, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
I mostly ended up removing some of the unsourced materials that had crept in, particularly in the overview. The article also should better reflect the theory that Li Sao is the only poem concretely known to be by Qu. White Whirlwind 咨 01:40, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, it probably needs another housecleaning to separate his biography from fancruft like "he wrote some of the greatest poetry in Chinese literature and expressed deep concerns about his state" that more closely reflects his present cult status than the state of legitimate research into the Songs of Chu. The bio also needs to clarify exactly what is recorded in Sima Qian, with citations, since it's not clear (e.g.) whether, "in his exile, he spent much of this time collecting legends and rearranging folk odes while traveling the countryside" reflects the records Sima was going through or whether it's present conjecture starting from the assumption that he was personally responsible for most of the Songs of Chu. — LlywelynII 00:53, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
- As you can see, it's been six years and I never got around to a full re-write. I agree with the need for removal of the "fancruft" – this is an issue across quite a few China-related articles. Perhaps I'll work on it over the Christmas holidays, if the spirit moves me. White Whirlwind 咨 01:07, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

Wen & Guo's dates
[edit]aren't wrong—the essay and play were done during wartime. The listed references are the earliest published versions I could find but, if anyone can find the contemporary editions, please do include them. — LlywelynII 00:13, 16 December 2017 (UTC)
