Notability

[edit]

This article could use some citations about the historical background of the term. It doesn't appear to have been entirely made up by the article author, but it also needs more information to establish its notability. A quick google search shows mostly wikipedia and associated projects which would be inadequate to establish notability as that would be WP:circular. I know that purple was anciently associated with Sappho, and whence the link to feminism is readily appreciable. But that same Sapphic association also produces a link to Bisexuality, and it is with Bisexuality that purple is now linked culturally; much moreso than feminism, which has in recent years lost its scary, radical image and moved much more to the centre stage of people politics.

Footnote 8 is both mediocre (in this context) and depreciated, is there an alternative?

[edit]

It is from RFC: Electronic Intifada, and should generally not be used if a better source is available. Additionally, the claim is not perfectly sourced (and on an issue where this publication is somewhere between Wikipedia:Biased and Wikipedia:Fringe theories), so a better source would be great, if someone has one?
