Seismic activity Haiti?

[edit]

This is not my area, but I was looking for background on seismic activity in Haiti. I am surprised it is not mentioned at all in that section, given there have been two major earthquakes in the last 15 years. This feels like it needs more.``` 131.238.30.208 (talk) 15:20, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Haiti itself is not really affected by the Puerto Rico Trench, although the Dominican Republic is, particularly at its eastern end. The 1946 Dominican Republic earthquake was probably a result of movement on the subduction zone along the trench. The Puerto Rico Trench structure does continue to the west along the North Hispaniola Fault although the dominant plate boundary structures become the strike-slip Septentrional-Oriente fault zone in the north of Haiti and the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault zone to the south.
