Started page with a list of stubs. It's suprising that it wasn't already up in some form! This is quite a popular course in many universities. Wikidea 00:18, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Proposed title change to "Public economics"
"Public economics" has about 100X the scholarly attestation (by this measure) over "Public sector economics" (by this measure). IMO that gives PE an advantage over PSE in the choice of titles. Nothing should be lost from the present history of PSE in such a name change. If anyone has comments on the above proposal, please leave them in this section, rather than in one of the subsections that follow. Some history of the earlier Wiki article, also titled Public economics§ appears below. § From which the present PES article draws, if one may judge by comparing each respective section of the earlier Public economics with its respective counterpart at the first article edit of PES from July 22, 2008. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 16:40, 17 March 2009 (UTC) (Fn. clarification, --Thomasmeeks (talk) 09:21, 26 March 2009 (UTC))
- Ignoring redirect edits, the history of page Public economics ends at 00:52, 27 November 2007 by User:141.211.139.141 (which is a redirect with the full text left in) and the history of page Public sector economics starts at 00:15, 22 July 2008 by User:Wikidea. But there seems to be little or no resemblance between these two edits astride this supposed earlier cut-and-paste point, and likelier page Public sector economics was started independently. There may have been various partial copy-and-pastes over time between these pages and page Public finance. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:56, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- I have moved this request's link from Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen to Wikipedia:Requested moves#24 March 2009. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:45, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
- For technical and substantive reasons, I have requested halting consideration of action on the above proposal at Wikipedia:Requested moves#24 March 2009, pending clarification there. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 16:26, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
Earlier history of "Public economics"
A little bit of history. There was an earlier Wiki article called Public economics, as can be seen by examining the history tab from that link (as discticct from Public economics which is a REDIRECT to Public sector economics)). The earlier article goes back to 2005. It is currently at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Public_economics&oldid=169168015.
Someone had the (bad, IMO) idea of emptying PE to make it a REDIRECT to Public finance. It subsequenly became a REDIRECT for Public sector economics (good idea).
I expect that the proposed title change will take place. For the sake of the record, I ccpy below first the "Public economics" below from the 15:17, 4 November 2007 Edit (currently at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Public_economics&oldid=169168015) before it was emptied to became a REDIRECT, followed by the earlier Talk:Public economics, currently at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Public_economics&oldid=169168015 and its associated log history.
Earlier "Public economics" article
Public economics is the study of the public economy, including the public sector and its influence on the economy and society. It covers public-finance theory and its application to public-policy issues. It includes economic issues beyond the household, firm, or market with emphasis on analytical and scientific methods and normative-ethical analysis (Kolm, 1987, p. 1047). Examples of topics covered are tax incidence, optimal taxation, the theory of public goods, and design of policy (Atkinson and Stiglitz, 1980).

Earlier "Talk:Public economics" page
- a major portion of this article is an exact copy of section 1.1 of "Intermediate Public Economics" by Jean Hindriks and Gareth D. Myles. appropriate actions must be taken.
- That's a good enough reason for deleting it if anyone can identify which material needs to be deleted. That's what has been elsewhere, with no ill effect (details on request). --Thomasmeeks 16:21, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Proposal to archive current content of Talk page in 2 weeks
- The article-title change and revision-history merge suggested above of "Public sector economics" to the earlier "Public economics" was completed seamlessly yesterday (including their respective Talk pages), thanks to the technical wizardry of User:Anthony Appleyard. There was also a timely assist by User:Wikidea. What is on this Talk page now is arguably dated and possibly a distraction to the continued improvement of the article. For that reason, I propose archiving the current Talk page up to this section in 2 weeks if there is no consensus against it. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 16:08, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- The best way to archive this talk page is:-
- Move Talk:Public economics to Talk:Public economics/Archive 1
- Create a new page Talk:Public economics containing the text {{Archives}}
- Cut-and-paste or copy-and-paste from the start of Talk:Public economics/Archive 1 to Talk:Public economics any permanent starting matter such as tag templates: in this case there are no such tag templates to copy across.
- Insert the text {{Archive}} at the start of Talk:Public economics/Archive 1
- Thank you, again. I had no idea what I was getting into, but now I at least I have a blueprint (well, a redprint) for getting out of it! --Thomasmeeks (talk) 16:45, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
