I don't know what translation the quotes originally on this page came from -- it was uncited. But I replaced those quotes, with quotes from Pieter Willem van der Horst's version (insofar as I could identify the corresponding quote in it). The problems with the original, is there was no citation to who the translation was by, or which lines were being translated; and the translation was in the wrong register -- it was expressed in direct, colloquial/informal English, whereas the original, while terse, is nonetheless in formal, literary Greek. van der Horst's translation is much better, since he tries to make the English style match the Greek style, as much as possible, something at which the translation originally here failed dismally--124.188.231.240 (talk) 22:02, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
