[edit]Why isn't it Proterosaurus? If it's supposed to mean "first lizard", that's how it should be spelled (i.e. as protero-saurus), and the guy who wanted Protorosaurus for the ancestor of Torosaurus (i.e. as pro-Torosaurus) should've been able to use it. Who is responsible for the entrenched misspelling? Inquiring minds want to know! -- Goueznou, 65.119.203.193 (talk) 14:41, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- That would be Christian Erich Hermann von Meyer, though I'm not so sure it's a misspelling as much as a variant spelling not seen much in the modern era. Incorrectly formed names still count, anyway, unless the spelling varies within the original paper iteself, giving the author the opportunity to clarify which one was intended.
