Category or list?

Shouldn't this be a category rather than a list, as is done with most states? Daniel Case 18:41, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

There are advantages to lists that make this article worth having on the Wikipedia. The biggest advantage is that the list can be categorized into various subcategories on a single page. A list also allows you to have a complete list of XYZ, rather than having just a category of XYZ for only the currently existing Wikipedia articles. BlankVerse 10:00, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Converting to redirect

I am about to clear this article and set it as a redirect to California#Protected areas. As it stands, this article doesn't come close to comprehensively dealing with the subject of its title, and is rather simply a list of California state parks. And as that, it duplicates List of California state parks, an article which has been kept up-to-date better than this one.

I see great value in an article of the title Protected areas of California if:

  • it offers discussion/analysis and a statewide view, rather than simply being a list
  • it is comprehensive of all types of protected areas in the state, and not just state parks

I would invite someone with a more in-depth understanding of the topic than me to tackle that project.

I do understand that List of California state parks is simply alphabetical, whereas some attempt has been made to introduce categorization in this article - an attempt that may be worthy. But if that is done, it needs a title more apropos to the article, and it needs to be kept up-to-date.

I've copied some of the text, categories, see-also's, and such to California#Protected areas and List of California state parks, so that nothing is lost by clearing info off this article.
