Rule divergence

[edit]

There must be a section on this!

The game of hockey and the bulk of game-play rules emerged in 1875 -nearly 150 years ago in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

With a century and a half of game-play and understanding already established, a primary area of interest when learning about the new Professional Women's Hockey League is: what are the major areas of difference in game-play, scoring, penalties?

For instance, Rule 52 of the PWHL clearly says 'body-checking' is allowed. But then Rule 52 also goes on to list about 17 stipulations why body-checking actually is NOT allowed.

While Rule 52 is the decided rule for PWHL, it is important to: recognize, highlight, and make easily accessible / digestible, the major ruling differences between PWHL and NHL. Virulentvowels (talk) 02:00, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

While neither agreeing nor disagreeing with OP, the PWHL's "jail-break" rule should be noted somewhere. If a team scores a short-handed goal, then their player in the penalty box is released (similarly to if a team on the power-play scores a goal.) --MikeVitale 02:36, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I added a short section on this, with help from AFC Vixen's contributions to the lead. It's there if it needs to be refined and/or expanded! Other justin (talk) 21:39, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
