Former award by the Golden Laurel name?
[edit]IMDb mentions Golden Laurel awards from the 50s. Are they related to these? Example. Thmazing (talk) 23:06, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
- Without ever looking in to it that much, I highly doubt(ed) it for two reasons: 1. Afaict, the award from the 50s, 60s and 70s is mainly performance awards and seems to include only one award related to producing (in early editions; later editions include all kinds of awards, similar to broad award shows like the Oscars), which seems unlikely for an award by the PGA, given that guilds traditionally hand out awards for their associated craft only (see DGA Awards, WGA Awards and others that have been around for a much longer time than the PGA Awards). 2. An early version of the official PGA website a while ago had a short text about the history of the award where they state that it was created in 1990 (see archived version of the text) and the PGA also used/uses ceremony numbers implying a start in 1990 (see recent ceremonies, but also the nominations announcement for the 12th PGA Golden Laurel Awards (archived version), for example). Sure, maybe the PGA wanted to kind of erase that part of their history, but it just seems very unlikely to me. Felida97 (talk) 10:04, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- I guess the followup question then becomes do those awards need an article. Thmazing (talk) 19:16, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
