History
[edit]I replaced the history section with notes and text that came from Dana Roth, chemistry librarian at Caltech. It replaced the following text, which is less detailed but could be merged into the current text. -- phoebe / (talk to me) 20:56, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
- Six issues numbered 1-6 were published during its first year, 1933. In the next year, four volumes numbered 1-4 were published, each having nine issues. Four volumes, each with nine issues, were also published in 1935, but the first two were numbered 1 and 2 whereas the last two were numbered 8 and 9 so as to re-number the seven, previously published volumes and all future volumes unambiguously.[1] From 1936 to 1947, four volumes of nine issues were published annually like 1935. Five volumes were published in 1948. Then, every year from 1949 until 1992, six volumes of six issues each were published.
- From 1933-1935, summaries of the articles and the table of contents were published in Russian (the journal's main language), English, French, and German. Additionally, volumes published in 1935-1947 were issued in multilingual editions in each of the four languages. Later, starting in 1956 and continuing thereafter, English translations of the table of contents were again provided.
