on notability

[edit]

In reply to the AfC comment/question from Nomadicghumakkad, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(academics) criteria 7 says "The person has had a substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity." As I see it, she publishes papers about the need for reform of IP laws. Meanwhile, outside academic she's launching successful court challenges to multinational companies about their IP and featuring in the world's top newspapers calling for reform. So my interpretation is that she's having a "substantial impact outside academia" in the same areas where she is also an academic, thus meeting criteria #7. Can be one way to look at it. I haven't seen a lot of articles accepted at C7 so this will remain tricky and very much open to how people perceive it. I suggest you ask at WP:TEA for more experienced eyes. Nomadicghumakkad (talk) 01:52, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see how it could be interpreted any other way, but I would suggest this is only relevant if you also consider that she isn't notable in the normal way. I think she is. Reporting on her work from CBS, Medical News Today and Mother Jones I think alone would make her notable. I'll wait for your thoughts before asking at WP:TEA, Nomadicghumakkad, hope that's OK. I don't have further thoughts on it honestly. It's a grey area. So good to have more feedback. Nomadicghumakkad (talk) 02:00, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
