"End of the Tunnel" is the thirteenth episode of the television series Prison Break, written by series creator Paul Scheuring and directed by Sanford Bookstaver. It was first broadcast on November 28, 2005. "End of the Tunnel" was also the final episode to be aired in 2005 in the United States and Canada as it was the last episode in the first batch of thirteen episodes ordered by Fox. The series was extended to a full season of twenty-two episodes by Fox on September 29, 2005 due to its popularity. The hiatus allowed the production to catch up and the next episode was aired on March 20, 2006.

Plot

Abruzzi is flown out of the prison to a hospital after his throat was cut with a razorblade by T-Bag. With Lincoln now in the SHU, the five remaining inmates discuss what is going to happen. Michael wants to postpone the breakout until he finds a way to get his brother out of solitary confinement in the 32 hours until his execution. However, the other four conspirators want to go as soon as possible. It becomes clear to Michael that the escape is happening that night.

After praying for Burrows with the prison priest, Michael gives a crucifix necklace to the priest asking to send it to his brother. Lincoln finds that the crucifix has been tampered with and discovers a hollow area in the back of the cross containing a small black pill, along with a tiny piece of paper that reads "EAT 8:10". Michael had hidden it previously in order to get Lincoln into the infirmary. Lincoln takes the pill at 8:10 pm, 50 minutes before the breakout, and suddenly collapses onto the ground, grasping his stomach. The guards promptly deliver him to the infirmary and Dr. Tancredi tells him that she believes he had food poisoning.

The five escapees use the series of pipes to crawl to the vent underneath the infirmary, where Michael's group needs to enter to proceed to the wire that they must all crawl across to escape. However, when they arrive at the maintenance room which was right beneath the infirmary, Michael realizes the pipe which he had corroded previously had been replaced. The team stares at Michael and the pipe which now effectively prevents the team from escaping through the infirmary. After a struggle to break the pipe with the help of leverage and Lincoln, trying to push down onto the pipe from above, the group is unsuccessful. Dumbfounded and distressed, Michael says "We're not getting out of here." The episode ends with T-Bag pulling out a shank and threatening Michael, "Unfortunately pretty, that ain't an option."

Reception

This episode attracted an average of 12.1 million viewers in the United States on its original airdate, making it the most watched episode in the entire series. A clip of this episode's final scene was used in the 63rd Golden Globe Awards during the announcement of Prison Break's nomination in the category of "Best Television Series - Drama". The episode was watched by 1.49 million Viewers in the UK and was therefore ranked number 17 on Channel Five for its UK release date (17 April 2006).

"Cell Test" is the third episode of television series Prison Break which was first broadcast on television on September 5, 2005. The episode is directed by Brad Turner and the writer credited is Michael Pavone. In this episode, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) must test his cell mate, Fernando Sucre (Amaury Nolasco), to insure that Fernando can be entrusted with knowledge of the escape plan. Meanwhile, Veronica Donovan's attempt to exonerate Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) hits an unexpected turn, while L. J. Burrows (Marshall Allman), Lincoln's son, gets closer to his father.

Plot

After two of his toes were cut off at the behest of John Abruzzi, Michael Scofield is sent to the infirmary. Michael later tells an angry Lincoln Burrows that Sucre, Michael's cellmate, must be trusted. During PI, Michael hides a cell phone in a box, while Sucre watches. Lincoln has ideas of his own, and informs Captain Brad Bellick (Wade Williams) that Sucre may know the whereabouts of a cell phone. Bellick approaches Sucre, telling Sucre that he can retain his conjugal rights in exchange for the cell phone. Sucre refuses to inform and has his conjugal rights revoked. Sucre soon learns that the cell phone is made of soap. This proves his worthiness, and Michael lets Fernando in on the escape plan. Fernando, who is due for release in 16 months and whose fiancee, Maricruz Delgado (Camille Guaty), awaits him, refuses to have any part in the escape plan. L. J. sees a probation officer, where he has to talk with his father Lincoln. The two become closer than they have been, and L. J. agrees to see his father during his execution. Veronica Donovan is contacted by Leticia Barris (Adina Porter), who agrees to give Veronica some information. While Letitia goes away to have a cigarette, Veronica is met by Agent Paul Kellerman (Paul Adelstein), who is claiming to be there to help her. When Kellerman leaves, Veronica searches for Leticia, to no avail. Agents Kellerman and Hale (Danny McCarthy) have actually kidnapped her, having removed her to the woods for execution. The two agents call the woman in Montana (Patricia Wettig), who tells them to take care of Donovan. Meanwhile, Veronica meets her fiance, Sebastian Balfour (Anthony Starke), and they call off their planned wedding.

T-Bag (Robert Knepper) plans his revenge on Michael and wants Abruzzi's help. But the lives of Abruzzi's children are being threatened by Philly Falzone (Al Sapienza), a mob boss, if Abruzzi cannot discover the whereabouts of Fibonacci, an informer, and Abruzzi believes that Michael knows the whereabouts of Fibonacci. Abruzzi, realizing that the best way of safeguarding his children is to get information from Michael about Fibonacci, has his men beat up T-Bag as T-Bag is about to kill Michael. Sucre decides to transfer to another cell, since he doesn't want his life ruined. Soon, Bellick assigns Michael a new cellmate just released from the psych ward, "Haywire" (Silas Weir Mitchell), whom Michael feels can't be trusted. Michael plans to formulate his escape plan during the night, as Haywire sleeps, but Michael discovers that Haywire has a medical condition which prevents him from sleeping.

Production

Robert Knepper and Paul Adelstein, the actors who portray T-Bag and Paul Kellerman respectively, have since been promoted to regular cast from this episode onwards, making the total count to ten regulars.

Reception

"Cell Test" did not equal the performance of the previous two episodes. The episode averaged 8.47 million, a 19% drop from 10.46 million the previous episode. It achieved a 3.9 rating from the adult 18-49 demographic, down 15% from the previous episode. However, despite this, "Prison Break" still improved its 9pm timeslot. There were also two fantastic child actors in this episode, Lillian Almaguer and Elijah Roberts who played Abruzzi's (Peter Stormare)kids. Fox. It is the opposite story after its UK release on Five, 6 September 2006, where it was the first top 10 best performed programme for the week, placing it number 9, and a total of 1.99 million viewers, a boost since the "Pilot".
