Name Question
[edit]Can anyone directly confirm her full name? I am enquiring because de.Wikipedia has a noticably different name than en.Wikipedia.-- OsirisV (talk) 15:38, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- According to the Peerage ([1]), her full name is Friederike Wilhelmina Luise Amalie. The Peerage uses as its source: C. Arnold McNaughton, The Book of Kings: A Royal Genealogy. The name was anglisized for the English Wikipedia. As for the difference from the German Wiki in the order of names, I can only say that either she went by both, or there was a mistake in the German article. Hope that clarifies everything. Ruby2010 (talk) 15:47, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for the quick response. I noticed this when I looked at the section of the infobox noting her German name and I decided to compare the article with the German version.-- OsirisV (talk) 15:53, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Portrait Identification
[edit]We have a HUGE problem here -- both Frederica of Prussia and her mother, Frederica of Mecklenburg, have this as their portrait and it just confused me to the point of changing a few things around on several pages (as I thought it was linking to the same page). This portrait of Frederica of Prussia, uses an unknown page with no sources which states it's the Princess of Prussia Duchess of Anhalt. This portrait, the Queen of Hanover (Frederica of Prussia's mother), uses Facebook as its source for the portrait Queen of Hanover. So which is which? -- Lady Meg (talk) 03:51, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Requested move 7 September 2023
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Move to proposed alternative, Princess Frederica of Prussia, Duchess of Anhalt-Dessau. User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:23, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
Princess Frederica of Prussia (1796–1850) → Princess Frederica of Prussia – WP:OVERDAB. She was the only Prussian princess known as just "Frederica". The others were Princess Frederica Charlotte of Prussia and Princess Friederike Luise of Prussia. Any confusion between the three should be resolved by the hatnote to the dab page. estar8806 (talk) ★ 11:32, 7 September 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. UtherSRG (talk) 16:07, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Comment A hatnote would be enough for the purpose of disambiguation in this scenario. No need for the years and numbers. EDIT: DrKay pointed out there are other individuals with the same name, so maybe we should avoid giving unreasonable prominence to one person? Keivan.fTalk 12:06, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nominator. Killuminator (talk) 08:53, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. The claim that 'she was the only Prussian princess known as just "Frederica".' is utterly false, as can be easily demonstrated by simple internet searches. DrKay (talk) 14:59, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Simple internet searches show her as the first result [2], because she was the only one called exclusively "Frederica" alone. The only other result is Princess Frederica Charlotte of Prussia, who may have been called just "Frederica" from time to time, but her name was formally "Princess Frederica Charlotte". That would imply WP:NATURAL disambiguation and a hatnote could resolve confusion between the three. estar8806 (talk) ★ 12:31, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
- No, they don't: [3]. DrKay (talk) 16:17, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
- Fair. But the first source there lists "Frederica, Duchess of York", but says "Princess Frederica Charlotte...". estar8806 (talk) ★ 20:45, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not buying it. The google searches and the page views demonstrate that she is not the primary topic for the term. DrKay (talk) 20:58, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
- The pageviews demonstrate nothing as none of the other articles are just "Princess Frederica" with no other name. Nonetheless, I respect your point.
- I would suggest perhaps a title like Princess Frederica of Prussia, Duchess of Anhalt as a different way of avoiding parenthetical disambiguation. Especially because a few recent RMs (such as this) have demonstrated their may be some community for support for that form of disambiguation. estar8806 (talk) ★ 23:39, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose. No evidence of primary topic. Indeed, the evidence presented appears to support the current target of the redirect being the primary topic. Celia Homeford (talk) 07:47, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

- Relisting comment: Relisting after Project notifications and to see if the alternate move suggest might stick better. UtherSRG (talk) 16:07, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose per above. I would, however, prefer Princess Frederica of Prussia (born 1796), as our usual disambiguator does not include full dates. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:47, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- I'm ok with this counterproposal but I think Princess Frederica of Prussia, Duchess of Anhalt is an even better choice. Killuminator (talk) 01:23, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: "Duchess of Anhalt" does not seem like the appropriate disambiguator, it should rather be "Duchess of Anhalt-Dessau". Looking at Leopold IV, Duke of Anhalt, he only styled himself "Duke of Anhalt" in 1863 after Frederica had already died. BegbertBiggs (talk) 10:27, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
- Good catch. So Princess Frederica of Prussia, Duchess of Anhalt-Dessau appears to be what we're we've got. estar8806 (talk) ★ 16:23, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
