"Sent into exile" into a major European capital? Hmmm.... A NPOV tag would not be out of place here. --Ghirlandajo 23:04, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Annexation and exile

[edit]

George XII agreed in 1799 to extend the Russian protectorate over his kingdom, provided Georgia would retain its OWN administration and the royal dynasty. Upon the death of George, the Tsar Paul I violated the agreement abolishing the kingdom and annexing it to the Russian Empire. The members of the royal family were sent to Russia against their will. And it really was an exile for them. Prince Ioane (John) was deported under a military escort and was not allowed to return to his homeland. The process of deportation was so violent, that Ioane's mother, Maria, killed General Lazarev when the latter was trying to force her out of her bedroom. User:Kober
