English priest hunters

[edit]

This article seems to refer to 18th century priest hunting in Ireland. For completeness, I think it should also be expanded to include the priest hunting that began in 16th century England which is somewhat described in Priest holes. That article mentions that the priest hunter terminology applies to the English as well. — Jtatum (talk) 10:52, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, but the only sources I had were Irish. Work needed here. Ceoil (talk) 15:20, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An anonymous IP has added information, from unknown sources; it is ideology really. The bias of the edited article is obvious, and the grammar etc. also needs to be tidied up. Also , Jtatum I agree with your idea. GerixAu (talk) 01:04, 17 March 2011 (UTC) There is also a thread carried through the bias of the unknown copntributors that seems to be a bit biased. While a lot of the material was removed, it left in the unsubstantiated claim that Irish Catholics were never big church goers. That seems more in line with currently fashionable anticlericalism in Ireland that runs counter to Irish history. also, you can find links to the persecution of Roman Catholics in England, Wales, and Scotland that used Priest Hunters. I think this article needs to be broadened a bit. Look to the article on Forty Martyrs of England and Wales and you see a wealth of info. I'll revisit this page in a month to see if anything has changed. — Hhfjbaker (talk) 00:12, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
