Include Mitch O'Farrell as an acting president?
[edit]So there's been some back and forwards on whether or not O'Farrell should be included in the list as an acting president, or if he should only be listed as the President pro tem. I've seen various sources refer to O'Farrell's position as "interim President" and "Acting President," but not currently as "President pro tempore," at least during the time after Martinez resigned. O'Farrell may or may not stay as pro tem after October 18 (to which it's said that the council will choose a new president), but this is to see whether or not he should be included for October 10th-18th.

- Section 243(b) of the LA City Charter is clear: "The Council shall elect one of its members "President Pro Tempore" who shall act as presiding officer in the absence of the President of the Council and, in case of vacancy in the office of President of the Council, or in the case of unavailability due to sickness, absence from the state or disability of the President of the Council, shall exercise the powers and duties of the President of the Council under the provisions of this section." O'Farrell is Acting President because he is President Pro Tempore. Acting President is not a separate position. This is analogous to when a US Cabinet Secretary is vacant, the Deputy Secretary becomes Acting Secretary until the President (with Senate confirmation) appoints a new Secretary. The Acting Secretary is still the Deputy Secretary. Similarly, when the LA Council Presidency is vacant, the President Pro Tempore becomes Acting President until the City Council appoints a new President, but the Acting President is still the President Pro Tempore. - This whole thing is moot now. Paul Krekorian is President, and O'Farrell does indeed remain President Pro Tempore. OCNative (talk) 22:41, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Acting president of L.A. City Council
[edit]I would like to ask about adding all acting presidents of the city council if we could add them on the page it is apart of the history of the presidency. FYE31 (talk) 03:51, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- As per OCNative last time this was talked about, "Similarly, when the LA Council Presidency is vacant, the President Pro Tempore becomes Acting President until the City Council appoints a new President, but the Acting President is still the President Pro Tempore," meaning that they are only acting because of a small vacancy and go back to being normal after its filled, and are not considered as part of a list of presidents. reppoptalk 22:58, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
- okay on the List of la mayor's page there's all the acting mayors of the city I want to do the same thing with the council presidents not just O'Farrell. FYE31 (talk) 23:01, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
