Merge proposal

[edit]

While I really appreciate work of User:Tomaat on 3rd bridge and Moodswinger articles, though I deeply think that one general article on prepared guitar is enough than having 3 stub-like articles on same subject.

Besides, sadly, it looks more like self-promotion of Moodswinger (according to comment on Image:Moodswinger.jpg, it looks like Yuri Landman wrote so many articles mention his product himself). --GreyCat 22:22, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Poll on merge proposal

[edit]

Yuri Landman: "Very good, I don't have problems with the merge."—Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.83.196.112 (talkcontribs)

Yuri Landman writes: Could the one who is going to merge this article pay attention to my next explanation about the instruments? (I'm from Holland, so please excuse me for my bad english. I also added this note on the Moodswinger-article)

Note: "Merging 3rd Bridge & Moodswinger is okay by me. The main reason I separated it to 3 topics is that a prepared guitar is a guitar. A 3rd bridge instrument can be any (self created) electrical stringinstrument (see the Pencilina of Bradford Reed or Glenn Branca's instruments). So a 3rd bridge stringinstrument is one step further to a different (new) instrument than the electric guitar, which is very limited and inconvenient for this technique. My Moodswinger has for that reason 12 strings instead of 6 and a calculated mathematical harmonic resonance scale. Bradford also used a few similar pitches (1/3+2/3 & 1/4+3/4) in a more primitive scale. This resonance scale isn't on a normal 12-TET scaled instrument. Prepared guitars not only use a 3rd bridge, but also springs or other objects can be placed on the strings to alter the timbre of the tone. So a prepared Guitar is broader in experimentatl usage but sometimes less focused on harmonic mathematics.

Short:

  • My Moodswinger is a 3rd bridge instrument.
  • A prepared guitar can be a 3rd bridge instrument, but is not always a 3rd bridge instrument.
  • A 3rd Bridge instrument is not always a guitar and not always prepared, but sometimes especcially constructed (like my, Branca's and Bradford's instruments)."

So maybe merge Moodswinger + 3rd Bridge, but not merge 3rd Bridge and prepaired guitar?

glissando statement

[edit]

from the article: "one can play a true glissando with a slide, but this is otherwise impossible on a fretted instrument."

that's not true, one can bend the string after playing a note to achieve a true glissando Amirman 19:24, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, although it's debatable whether this slide stuff should be on here at all. It's irrelevant, and I vote for deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.83.108.10 (talk) 15:31, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to see more pictures of third bridge-guitars. Does someone have pics of:
