Talk:Precrash system
Merge Discuss
[edit]The Precrash system page appears to be list of the application of CAS in specific makes and models of vehicle. Would it not be more suitable to move the appropriate sections within the Precrash systems page to the relevant vehicle model page, rather than merge with the Collision Avoidance page? --Haruth (talk) 18:47, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
If this suggested section is to be added - it should be included in the Collision Avoidance System page --Haruth (talk) 18:47, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Criticism
[edit]This section needs to be added. The safety of these safety systems has NOT been proven. Put a computer where it doesn't belong and let people slip into stupidity. Good idea. Now the what ifs: What if the brakes automatically apply when I'm trying an emergency maneuver to quickly get out of the way of a runaway vehicle coming up behind me? (I know - I used too many words in that sentence for most people to comprehend.) The day they make these required is the day I disable them in my vehicles. Automatic window closing? Great - cut my kid's arm off why don't you! People need to grow a brain and stop having computers inside everything!HowesR1 (talk) 15:18, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Crash levels return to normal after the implementation of any new safety system due to drivers behavior. See Risk Homeostatis: reference: http://www.tytlabs.co.jp/english/review/rev392epdf/e392_001umemura.pdf This alone negates any benefit of an automated safety system - but in increases the risk of a non-operable vehicle while the computer decides contrary to the drivers decisions. didn't the Air France A330 automated fly-by-wire news article educate anyone? Amen.
[edit]I came to this article for the explicit reason of making sure I wasn't the only one who thought an automatic braking system is a terrible idea. This section really needs to be added. I once saw a show on Discovery about automated cars, which mentioned that the major challenge to warning systems like this was that you never ever ever want to take control away from the driver, which is exactly what these systems do. And now the NHTSA is weighing making these systems MANDATORY?! This is ridiculous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.216.208.251 (talk) 00:38, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
