Student edits in sandbox

I am a student in Darwinian Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. I am thinking of adding an evolutionary considerations section to preeclampsia. I have a draft of my proposed changes in my sandbox. I would appreciate any feedback and advice. My username is kayleeS17. Thank you for the help.KayleeS17 (talk) 15:41, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks User:KayleeS17! I read your sandbox and formated some of your citations. See Template:Cite doi and Template:Cite PMID to see how I used the unique cataloging numbers for your cited works to automatically make citations for them. Please put a citation after every sentence you add - citations are how people verify that information on Wikipedia is correct. Also, make sure that the information you have written is not duplicated elsewhere in this article, and if you find that it is, modify either your content or the other content so that statements are only made once. You give background information which may have already been published. Thanks for this. Blue Rasberry (talk) 11:18, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
The diagnosis of preeclampsia is incorrect you no longer need proteinurea — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.243.195.26 (talk) 11:53, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- As far as I know the list is: Proteinuria, renal insufficiency, liver disease, neurological deficits (stroke, seizure, etc), blood disturbances, fetal growth restrictions. If someone can find a ref and add would be awesome. Millionmice (talk) 02:40, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
This article was the subject of an educational assignment in 2014 Q1. Further details were available on the "Education Program:University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)/Expanding WikiProject Medicine (April 2014)" page, which is now unavailable on the wiki. |
Hi. I will be working on editing this article as part of the UCSF Wikipedia elective. I anticipate both drafting ideas in my sandbox and working directly on the article itself. Any and all potential feedback is appreciated as it comes up. Thank you. CmcUCSF2014 (talk) 18:44, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
After reading the article on Pre-eclampsia, I am impressed by the level of detail, organization, and overall high quality of writing. I think it is great how the article uses descriptions of the medical terminology with the medical-ese term wiki-linked following in parentheses. I like this style since it makes the article readable without having learned the medical lexicon and yet is also educational in that it teaches new terms.
I found the first paragraph (introduction) very informative. However, I wonder if it could be simplified in hopes that it’ll be easier to understand if someone wants to do a “quick look up” on the topic.
In terms of minor suggestions, in the signs and symptoms section, second paragraph, “Further” should be “Furthermore” (I think?).
Some questions that I would pose: Under “Causes,” is air pollution an established cause or more of controversial as to whether it is causative? I am not sure but just wanted to make sure that we are in accordance with the Wiki Philosophy of portraying evidence in proportion to the acceptance of it.
I wonder if it’s possible to wiki link a name of a section. Specifically, Differential Diagnosis is section title yet I think it would be useful to have a link to what it means.
Specifically @CmcUCSF2014, I think that your edits were targeted at the most important thing in medical literature - clarifying and making it readable for all. Awesome job! TWil2014 (talk) 00:44, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
Two prevention sections
Although they contain different information, it seems redundant to have two sections covering prevention of the condition. 71.51.133.41 (talk) 02:55, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

On the etymology of eclampsia, it just refers to a brightening or lighting up, not lightning. See Liddell & Scott's Greek-English Lexicon. Chris

Over-technical language?
"Abnormal chromosome 19 microRNA cluster (C19MC) impairs extravillus trophoblast cell invasion to the spiral arteries, causing high resistance, low blood flow, and low nutrient supply to the fetus.[16][17][18]"
Surely this is too technical for a Wikipedia article. The word "trophoblast" is not defined in the article (it means placental cell, I believe). And "extravillus"? "Spiral arteries"?
I am doing a PhD in genetics and biochemistry but I don't understand this. Could it be made less technical?
