There must be an error in authorship and date (Wilhelm Peters,1873). It is more likely that the author was James A. Peters, 1973. The latter studied amphibians of Ecuador unlike Wilhelm, who was never there. --Polinizador (talk) 14:25, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, according to the Amphibian Species of the World 6.0 the original reference is "Peters, W. C. H. 1873. Über eine neue Schildrötenart, Cinosternon Effeldtii und einige andere neue oder weniger bekannte Amphibien.
