Opening statement

[edit]

Hello, and come what may from this review, thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. During the review, I may make copyedits, which I will limit to spelling correction and minor changes to punctuation (removal of double spaces and such). I will only make substantive edits that change the flow and structure of the prose if I previously suggested and it is necessary. The Nominator(s) should understand that I am a grammar pedant, and I will nitpick in the interest of prose quality. For responding to my comments, please use  Done,  Fixed, plus Added,  Not done,  Doing..., or minus Removed, followed by any comment you'd like to make. I will be crossing out my comments as they are redressed, and only mine. A detailed, section-by-section review will follow. –♠Vami_IV†♠ 07:12, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • [...] replace a former headquarters of the New York World, [...] Did they have more than one?
  • The Potter Building was converted into apartments in 1979–1981 [...] This doesn't really work since this isn't a period of up to 12 months. Use "from 1979 to 1981" instead.

Design

[edit]
  • Charles E. Gibbs Who/What?
  • [...] he formed a partnership with architect Charles E. Gibbs, which was headquartered [...] Who was headquartered?
  • The building is one of the oldest extant buildings with a light court. One of the oldest in New York City? I recommend changing the second "building" to "structure", also.
    •  Done
  • The Real Estate Record and Guide compared the light court to those of the New York Evening Post Building and the Mills Building. What did it have to say?
    • Oops, I quoted the wrong thing. I wanted to quote the fact that the RER criticized the design of the court as making the building irregular. epicgenius (talk)
  • The Potter Building is among the oldest remaining buildings to retain architectural terracotta. Oldest among...?
    • plus Added
  • [...] and the eleventh-story windows contain terracotta hoods. Have terracotta hoods.
    •  Done
  • Potter's original plans for the building were for the first floor to contain bank offices and the upper floors for other businesses. This second part is confusing. I surmise Potter meant to rent that space out to other businesses?
    •  Fixed Yes.

History

[edit]
  • Are the money sums adjusted for inflation? They seem kind of ludicrous for the 19th century.
  • The fire destroyed much of the block within a few hours, causing more than $400,000 in damage.[31][32] The fire ultimately killed six people, and it took a week to investigate the wreckage.[34] Condense.
    •  Done

Copyvio scanner gave a 54.5% chance of copyright violation. I wasn't impressed by what I saw in the comparison and so I am ignoring that result. –♠Vami_IV†♠ 07:12, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
