Merge
[edit]The following discussion is closed and will soon be archived: Outcome was to merge/redirect
Hi. I propose to merge and redirect the PostPoint article to the article An Post. For several reasons:
- WP:MERGEREASON - The PostPoint article cannot really be read without context from the article on its parent brand, duplicates (in terms of content) text from the parent, overlaps (in terms of scope) significantly with the parent, and is very unlikely to be expanded beyond a few sentences.
- WP:PERMASTUB - The PostPoint article seems destined to be a "perma stub". Certainly, as above, it hasn't been expanded beyond a few sentences in the decade since it was created. When looking for sources to see how the article could be improved, most of the coverage (other than "man buys winning lotto ticket in newsagent with PostPoint desk" or "TV licence uptake remains OK and can be bought at PostPoint outlets") relates to the increased reliance on PostPoint outlets as rural An Post post offices close. Something that equally (and perhaps more appropriately) be covered in the An Post article.[1][2][3]
- WP:PRODUCT - The PostPoint article effectively deals with a service (a product offering) of the An Post parent. Products and services don't normally (unless a split is required) need their own article. We don't really need a standalone article to explain that An Post sells some of its products (stamps, giftcards, TV licences, mobile top-ups, etc) via different service channels (through newsagents as well as through post offices).
Anyway, unless there are other thoughts (about expanding this article beyond this apparent permastub), I'll likely merge the content to an appropriate section of the An Post article. Like "subsidiaries and joint ventures". And redirect this title there.... Guliolopez (talk) 22:41, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Agree: this is hardly worth being on its own, and is certainly not notably enough either. It can easily be added to the appropriate section of the parent company. ww2censor (talk) 11:00, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- Resolved Thanks ww2censor. As its been over a month, and as I haven't heard any other thoughts, I've gone ahead with the merge/redirect. In honesty (and as noted) there wasn't much to merge. (But then I guess that's kinda the point...) Guliolopez (talk) 18:10, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
