Proposal to merge with Posey (surname) into Posey (name)

[edit]
  • I had tried to move the Posey (surname) article to Posey (name) with the intent to add the information about the given name but someone reverted the move. The history of this particular name is different than Posy (given name) and Posie (given name) since Posey (given name) also has a history of usage as a male given name as well as a surname in addition to its use as a female name. It seems to make more sense to combine them into one article called Posey (name). There is an objection to saying the name is a surname with unknown etymological origins. Well, it is an undisputed fact that it is a surname with the same spelling as the given name. The source I quoted is by someone who has been quoted as a naming expert in different publications as well. Thoughts? Bookworm857158367 (talk) 18:02, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To summarize the entry in the Dictionary of Family Names, which I just cited, maybe the surname Posey comes from a Middle English word meaning either wallet or head cold. Then again, it might come from a German name or one of two French surnames. It’s fair to say the origins are various. Bookworm857158367 (talk) 19:00, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
