Little Jerusalem
[edit]Clanbrassil Street was really the heart of Little Jerusalem. Most of the Jews had their businesses there and lived there and on the neighbouring streets and off the South Circular Road. The closer one got to Portobello Bridge the fewer Jews there were.

Kosher bakery
[edit]Is it true that the famous jewish lord mayor of Dublin, Robert Briscoe used to work in the Kosher bakery as a meat producer, he said it on a visits to New York on the Amercian version "What's My Line" in 1958, he might have just adopted the story for the program though. I guess he must have had some connection with the area, given it being central to the Jewish communties in Ireland
- I never heard that he worked in a bakery. If he was dealing with meat he might have had some connection with one of the Jewish butcher shops (there was about half-a-dozen of them, plus two slaughter-houses) in Clanbrassil Street. I'll look it up later. Hohenloh + 03:23, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- Cheers, you'll find the epiosde of the show on youtube, if you type in his name on the search engine.
Nelson Pillar (head)
[edit]Can someone verify that after Nelson's Pillar was destroyed in O'Connell street, the head was stored ina shed on Clanbrassil street and it was stolen from this shed by Art students who wrapped it up ina blanket and put it in the back of a hatchback. I'd be interested to known were abouts the shed is, was it the Harold's Cross or St Patrick's Cathedral end. If anyway knows please enlighten.

Lower Deck Demonstration
[edit]A taxi driver (sorry, no quotation taken) told me once that about 15 years ago there were demonstrations outside of the pub the Lower Deck on Portobello Harbour. This was because the pub had started having Sunday Morning Strip Teases. Can anybody verify this?

- I know that taxi driver well - he's a North-sider. Don't believe anything he says.
