Title
[edit]Just a minor note: There should be a separate article devoted to the Port of New York and New Jersey. The Port Authority and the Port of New York and New Jersey are not the same thing; the latter refers to the actual port region and the commerce conducted within it (trade at marine terminals and airports), whereas the former is the agency that administers the Port of NY and NJ.

Hello Forschung125 -- Your note of nine years ago remains true today. A port is typically a water terminal. Therefore I recommend that we move Port of New York and New Jersey#Jurisdiction and regulation to Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. BTW Port of New York and New Jersey#Jurisdiction and regulation is hopelessly out of date. Port of New York and New Jersey#Car float and Cross Harbor Tunnel Both have their own articles, more up to date, so that section ought to go, save a pointer. Waddaya think? I can help. Rhadow (talk) 22:35, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
- Responsibilities within the port are divided among all levels of government, from municipal to federal, as well as public and private agencies.Car float and Cross Harbor Tunnel are components of the port and such should discussed in article and are linked.Djflem (talk) 23:18, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Djflem -- Yes, everything should be mentioned and links inserted. I agree. I also suggest that a full description of anything should appear only once in WP. There is an article on New York New Jersey Rail. No point in having a full description in Port of New York and New Jersey and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey too. The PA a governmental authority that has a broad portfolio. I think a carve out for the description of the harbor, its facilities, and its history is great. There's no reason to duplicate the full description of the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor. By the same token, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey#Seaports should move into Port of New York and New Jersey. Waddaya think? Rhadow (talk) 01:09, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
- I think it's ill-conceived misunderstanding go what the Port of NY and NJ is and would be an injustice to remove vital information from the article.06:06, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

- Hello Djflem --I respectfully suggest that it is not injustice to eliminate duplication in WP. No deletion of vital data is proposed, only how it is presented. A single detailed description that is up to date helps the reader. Please see Talk:Port Authority of New York and New Jersey#Reorganize Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Port of New York and New Jersey. Eliminate duplication Rhadow (talk) 11:05, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
Port of New York and New Jersey
[edit]Floated above article about a week ago, and believe its pretty comprehensive but one always has blind spots. A look from fresh eyes would be greatDjflem (talk) 14:31, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Ferries and Sightseeing
[edit]A request has been submitted for a request for comment. Please in the meantime, do not revert my edits. While there are good direct links to some destinations where ferries call within the port one editor has decided to create elborate circuititous routes to them. Is there a reaon why this would or would not be good? This spreads to other places, namely the destinations themselves, and NY Waterway article. It borders on edit war. There has been no response as to why it's deemed better.Djflem (talk) 05:11, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- Just to let you know, its not at all clear what your even asking. What do you want to be discussed in this RFC? Thats probably why there hasn't been any response by now.Chhe (talk) 01:37, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Too many level 2 headers
[edit]This article has too many level 2 headers. Perhaps they can be reorganized. Epicgenius (talk) 21:35, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
- Too many level 2 headers? Is there a policy about level 2 headers? Seems like your reorganisation is a solution in search of a problem. The port is vast network of shipping operations that involve air, sea, rail, and road transportation are not so easily given convenient labels. While the focus tends to be toward water transport it is more complex than that.Djflem (talk) 10:33, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
