Port (disambiguation) → Port —
- Port has numerous meanings yet it currently goes to but one use of the word. I don't think that "port" in the shipping context is the most important use. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 08:23, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Comment Hardly what I'd call an uncontroversial move! Skinsmoke (talk) 10:37, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Support. The argument given by the proposer above is completely irrelevant IMO, but the move is a good idea for other reasons. The first question is: Is there a primary topic for the article title port? If there is, then I think it's the shipping context despite what is said above, but I don't think there is, so the move should go ahead. Interested in other views. - Oppose. While there are many articles listed at the Port (disambiguation) page with post somewhere in their names, few are actually just "ports". Port wine notwithstanding, (shipping) port is the primary topic. — AjaxSmack 01:41, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Note. This proposal should also have included a proposed destination for the current port article as this copuld have bearing on support for the move of the dab page. — AjaxSmack 01:41, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Comment: Agree, but as there seems no prospect of consensus to move in any case it's academic IMO. It's unlikely that a specific proposal would increase support, far more likely to expose some other concern and therefore reduce it. Except there's not a lot of support to reduce. Andrewa (talk) 07:12, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose. There are other meanings sure, but the primary use of the word port is definitely in the shipping context. The word port in the shipping context is the origin of the words airport and spaceport after all. The only other common use of the word port is in the computer context, and I do not believe this outweighs the use of the word in the shipping context. sdornan (talk) 03:25, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose - Port in the shipping context is far and away the primary use of the term as evidenced by it's derivatives; airport, seaport, spaceport and port of entry. The only other meaning that might have been argued for is the wine but unless you are sat amongst wine afficianados, you would generally call it "port wine" rather than just "port". Green Giant (talk) 03:32, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose the water based port is the traditional primary usage of the bare term "port" 76.66.193.119 (talk) 05:27, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose, although I would support adding port wine directly to the hatnote for convenience. Powers T 14:02, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose In absence of evidence that users are more likely to be seeking a different usage, I'm inclined to think the shipping usage is the primary topic. Nearly all the other usages are derivative. Propaniac (talk) 17:29, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
