More content needed
[edit]More content is needed in this article to support the whole structure of populated places categories. Hmains (talk) 02:12, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed. I was looking to determine the limit of the term. Are counties considered populated places? If not, why the apparently arbitrary limit set between municipalities and counties? __meco (talk) 18:25, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
deletion not
[edit]We cannot very well delete this page until a substitute phrase is found and all uses in WP of 'populated place' are replaced with the substitute. Not only is this term linked in countless articles, 'populated place' is the agreed upon terminology WP uses in the names of thousands of categories that collectively group cities/towns/villages and all other inhabitated localities--throughout the world, not just the US. See Category:Populated places and its subcats. The use of the term 'populated place' here was extensively discussed and decided on (a term I did not personally agree with, but that was the decision).
