I an old Polish book, I met an italicized expression gorzki blazen, giving me an idea that a yet another stock character variation of the Fool may be added to wp: a fool who is pitied. At the moment Of Mice and Men and The Idiot came to my mind. However it seems this type is not singled out by literary critics yet (or there is another term for the kind I am not aware of).
