Pompidou

[edit]

I propose that this be moved to "Pompidou (disambiguation)", to enable us to treat Georges Pompidou as the primary meaning, as he surely is. PatGallacher (talk) 13:18, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PompidouPompidou (disambiguation) – This enables us to treat President Georges Pompidou as the primary meaning, which he surely is. PatGallacher (talk) 17:45, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think Georges Pompidou as the primary meaning would be incorrect. Centre Georges Pompidou, commonly referred to as simply the 'Pompidou' seems like a better candidate, the fact that it was named for him has no bearing on the argument. It gets as many ghits and gbooks results as the President and the traffic statistics for the building are almost double, which I think goes at least as far as suggesting primary meaning is not quite so clear cut. Also I cannot see the relevance of the fact that biographies are titled by a person's full name (unless this somehow challenges the notion of WP:COMMONNAME); if the topic was deemed the primary usage of the term and was commonly referred to as such, Pompidou would simply be a redirect to the title, as seen with Mandela.
