The result of the move request was move to Polynesian Aervanath (talk) 07:17, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
- Polynesian_(disambiguation) → Polynesian — All other regional and national adjectives are disambiguation pages. There is now an article on Polynesian peoples, "Polynesian" should not redirect to "Polynesia" --Saimdusan Talk|Contribs 08:37, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Incomplete, andnot all such adjectives have dab pages at their plain titles. Dekimasuよ! 14:23, 27 February 2009 (UTC)- Seems reasonable. Polynesian should not redirect only to Polynesia or Polynesian culture since, in addition to those two possibilities, the term could refer to the language family and the ethnic group as well as the horse and the Disney Resort. Sounds like ambiguity to me but what are the counterarguments? — AjaxSmack 17:05, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- The rationale originally given was faulty, but yours isn't. Dekimasuよ! 08:02, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, but... There are well over 300 incoming links to "Polynesian". A sampling indicates a number could indeed be intended for the language or ethnic group articles but most, including those, could reasonably default to "Polynesia", which references those daughter topics and has a hatnote pointing here. If the redirect is turned into a dab page before those links are disambiguated, over 300 links will land on a dab page instead of an article. If someone intends to disambiguate all those links, the move might make sense. Otherwise, the current situation is not too harmful in my opinion. (Note: during this discussion someone redirected "Polynesian" to "Polynesian culture" rather than "Polynesia". I reverted pending outcome here.) Station1 (talk) 15:53, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
I checked the history, and it appears that the original move was made by User:Saintrain. What was the rationale for this move?Saimdusan Talk|Contribs 05:08, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- I checked the "what links here", and it appears that many of the links were from this template, which is clearly referring to "Polynesia" (as all the other links were directly to the region rather than the adjective, except for in the case of some minority indigenous cultures). I changed the link to Polynesia. Strangely though, Bantu peoples is still on the list, even though it (and probably others) don't link to "Polynesian" anymore. Saimdusan Talk|Contribs 05:19, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- That's just because the page Bantu peoples hadn't been saved since the template was updated. I made a null edit there, and now it's off the list. -GTBacchus(talk) 01:54, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- However, that template is only on 10 pages, so there are still over 300 incoming links that it would be good to disambiguate. -GTBacchus(talk) 01:57, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- There was also a second template that was on a number of pages that I changed. I also changed some other pages, interestingly most of the links to "Polynesian" seem to be referring to the ethnic group. But yes, there is still a large number that needs to be disambiguated.Saimdusan Talk|Contribs 05:29, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
