Removal of deletion proposal tag
[edit]The webzine Polyglot has been publicized throughout various news sites that are popularly read within the gaming hobby (e.g. ENWorld, Gamingreport, RPG.net) and this has been referenced in the article. Polyglot itself has more than 11,000 readers (according to the publisher's download statistics issued in statements). It is notable that there are languages that have Wikipedia articles about them which have fewer than that many native speakers:
While it is true that many topics are not notable enough to merit Wikipedia articles, this is not one of them. The webzine has a large following among tabletop gamers and as the article notes, some very important news in the industry has been reported in it. A lizard 19:36, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
It should also be noted that the number of game companies (including large computer game companies such as Activision and Electronic Arts consider Polyglot to be important enough to send press releases to it on a regular basis. THis is noted in a different section of the article. A lizard 19:40, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Deletion marking, November 2007: Removal of tags regarding lack of references
[edit]The article contains 35 references, all of them containing links; a number of these links are to website of companies in the game hobby industry who cite Polyglot as an important source for news in that industry. Some external links not referenced in the article text are included as well. This article does not lack sources or references. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of English Wikipedia articles which have far less documentation than this one.
The (as of November 1 2007) proposal for deletion is based on a lack of references, which is untrue. I have updated most of the links in the article so that the references are current. This proposal for deletion is also based on the premise that Polyglot lacks "notability." Now while I will address this topic in greater depth in the deletion page, it bears mentioning that the hobby game industry is not unimportant (in fact there are many articles about companies in it and their various products and professional associations in the English Wikipedia); it follows that one of the largest news sources in that industry is not lacking in notability either. Certainly, the news that has been reported in this webzine have had far-reaching effects in the hobby game industry.A lizard 19:59, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Addendum, list of contributors
[edit]It is interesting that individuals who have argued for the deletion of this article have cited a lack of external references, yet their own edits to the article have consisted of the deletion of external references and notes. By the same token, two users have alleged a lack of notability of the article and at the same time advocated the removal of a complete section of the article which most forcefully attests to the article's notability: the list of contributors; that the largest companies int he game hobby, computer, and console game industries regularly use Polyglot as a marketing outlet (and these companies have millions of dollars in assets, whole Wikipedia portals about them, and many of them are publicly traded) consider use Polyglot for marketing their products means, at the very least, that they think the webzine is notable. It is almost as if an effort is being made by certain Wikipedians to deliberately make the Polyglot article less notable.
As a concession to those who believed the list of contributors was too long or not necessary, a shorter, partial list in paragraph form was added instead. Representative, large companies in various industries were listed (in one case, a company's most famous product was listed as that company's product is arguably more well known than the company itself) and an attempt was made to restrict this list to companies who have Wikipedia pages about them. — A lizard 18:12, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Polyglot-logo.png
[edit]Image:Polyglot-logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
