Why not a disambiguation page?
[edit]Why is this page protected to be a redirecting page to Politics of the People's Republic of China? I think it should be changed to a disambiguation page to distinguish Politics of the Republic of China. --Neo-Jay 10:51, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- Because dab pages exist where there is ambiguity. Nobody refers to the RoC as simple "China". SchmuckyTheCat
- Politics of the Republic of China also covers the history of China from 1911 to 1949. The Republic of China in this period is of course referred to as simple "China". Politics of the People's Republic of China only talks about the politics of China after 1949. I hope that a comprehensive article Politics of China will be created to cover the whole political history of China. But for now, a disambiguation page is necessary.--Neo-Jay 06:52, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Politics of X articles tend to be fairly current (to within a few decades) because old politics are history. Users who are looking for "politics of China" are not looking for the RoC. SchmuckyTheCat
- How can you say that Users who are looking for "politics of China" are not looking for the RoC? I am such a user. If your argument is valid, why not rename Politics of the People's Republic of China to Politics of China? --Neo-Jay 09:37, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Let's create a disambig page OR a comprehensive page - this redirect should not point to PRC alone. WhisperToMe (talk) 04:41, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Guys, we now have a separate page for 'China' and the PRC, why is there not a separate page for the politics of China as distinct from the politics of the ROC and the PRC? I haven't tried editing this page, but I think it it is probably protected anyway. I'll give it a try now. FOARP (talk) 17:04, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
There, no doubt people are going to find this objectionable, but the fact is there are two bodies which claim to govern China, just are there are two bodies which claim to rule Korea and Cyprus - to simply redirect this link to the politics of the PRC means that this article only represents the China=PRC POV FOARP (talk) 17:17, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Common names. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)
Proper names of the pages represented. You go to the 'politics of the Republic of China' page and try to change it to 'the politics of Taiwan' if you like. Anyway, I'm sure you've seen this from the project page for naming conventions:
"As a general rule of thumb, the official political terms "People's Republic of China" or "PRC" and "Republic of China" or "ROC" should be used in political contexts (that is, to describe the existing governments or regimes) rather than the imprecise and politically charged terms "China" and "Taiwan." For example, "Hu Jintao is the President of the People's Republic of China" is preferred over "Hu Jintao is the President of China." Likewise, one should write "one must be an ROC citizen to vote in the ROC presidential election" as opposed to "one must be a Taiwanese citizen to vote in the Taiwanese presidential election."" FOARP (talk) 15:32, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- The naming conventions, that section specifically, are disputed and unreliable.
- The key question for a dab page is not politics, it is reader convenience. Throw the politics away and you are left with the question of what readers expect to find at any given title. Do any general readers refer to the RoC as "China"? No, they do not. If they type "Politics of China", are there any general readers (ie, those not already well-versed in RoC/PRC nomenclature) that are expecting to find information about the RoC? No, there are not. That is why this is not a dab page. SchmuckyTheCat (talk
But we have the example of the Korea page, the Irish page, the Congo page etc., plus the fact that there is already a separate page for China - why shouldn't there be a page for Chinese politics? PRC=China is POV, the separate political systems are both ones which hold power in more than one province of China and both claim to rule China. YOu may not like the naming convention, but it does seem to have been stable now for quite some time. You already seem to have had a revert war on this one, so can we find a way of avoiding another? FOARP (talk) 19:51, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I also note that in lots of places there are separate links for 'PRC politics' and 'politics of China' FOARP (talk) 19:59, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Important notice
[edit]The government section of the "Outline of China" needs to be checked, corrected, and completed -- especially the subsections for the government branches.
When the country outlines were created, temporary data (that matched most of the countries but not all) was used to speed up the process. Those countries for which the temporary data does not match must be replaced with the correct information.
Please check that this country's outline is not in error.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact The Transhumanist .
Thank you.
Semiprotection review
[edit]This article was semiprotected during the career of a banned user who has now apparently been inactive for well over a year. I would like to hear opinions from regular editors on whether semiprotection can now be lifted. - There's positively no reason to keep the protection on. I removed it. Grandmasterka 17:09, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
